Enrolled patients are now able to have a booked appointment with the practice nurse to get their flu vaccine.
All patients aged 9 years and over are welcome to get their flu vaccination via our Urgent Care service. A non-funded flu vaccination costs $32.
Do you qualify for a free flu vaccine?
Flu vaccines are free if you have a high risk of complications from getting the flu: pregnant women, people aged 65 and over, anyone under 65 years with ongoing medical conditions, such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, respiratory disease (including asthma), kidney disease and most cancers, and children under 5 who have been hospitalised for respiratory illness or have a history of significant respiratory illness.
Zostavax vaccine protects against shingles
Patients over the age of 50 are encouraged to protect against shingles by having a Zostavax vaccine. A non-funded Zostavax vaccination costs $250.
Do you qualify for a free shingles vaccine?
From 1 April this year, Zostavax is funded for people aged 65 to 80.
- 97% of adults are at risk for shingles because they have had chickenpox; about 1 in 3 will get shingles in their lifetime.
- Once you are over 50, your risk of shingles and associated chronic pain increases.
- The pain of shingles can last for months, even years, after the rash has gone.
